In memory of Professor Alexandros Rodolakis
Με βαθιά θλίψη σας πληροφορούμε για την απώλεια του Ομότιμου Καθηγητή Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και Προέδρου της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας Αλέξανδρου Ροδολάκη.
Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας εκφράζει τη βαθύτατη οδύνη του για την απώλεια ενός εξέχοντος επιστήμονα, ενός πρωτοπόρου της Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας στη χώρα μας και, πάνω απ’ όλα, ενός ανθρώπου που αφιέρωσε τη ζωή του στην ιατρική, την εκπαίδευση και τη φροντίδα των ασθενών.
Ο Αλέξανδρος Ροδολάκης υπήρξε μία από τις σημαντικότερες προσωπικότητες που συνέβαλαν στην εξέλιξη και εδραίωση της Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας στην Ελλάδα. Με την επιστημονική του δραστηριότητα, την κλινική του εμπειρία και τη διαρκή αναζήτηση της βέλτιστης θεραπευτικής προσέγγισης, υπηρέτησε με συνέπεια την πρόοδο της ειδικότητας και έθεσε υψηλά πρότυπα επιστημονικής και επαγγελματικής αριστείας.
Η προσφορά του όμως δεν περιορίστηκε στην κλινική και ερευνητική του δραστηριότητα. Ως πανεπιστημιακός δάσκαλος, διαμόρφωσε γενιές νέων γιατρών και Γυναικολόγων-Ογκολόγων, μεταδίδοντας όχι μόνο γνώσεις και χειρουργική εμπειρία, αλλά και την αξία της επιστημονικής σκέψης, της υπευθυνότητας και του σεβασμού προς την ασθενή. Πολλοί από τους μαθητές και συνεργάτες του συνεχίζουν σήμερα να υπηρετούν τη Γυναικολογική Ογκολογία στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό, αποτελώντας ίσως την πιο ουσιαστική και διαχρονική έκφραση της παρακαταθήκης του.
Ιδιαίτερη υπήρξε η συμβολή του στην Ελληνική Εταιρεία Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας. Ως Πρόεδρος της Εταιρείας εργάστηκε με συνέπεια για την ανάπτυξη της ειδικότητας, την προαγωγή της επιστημονικής γνώσης και την ενίσχυση της εκπαίδευσης και της συνεργασίας μεταξύ των Ελλήνων Γυναικολόγων-Ογκολόγων. Η παρουσία και η δράση του συνέβαλαν ουσιαστικά στη διαμόρφωση της σύγχρονης ταυτότητας της Εταιρείας μας. Για όλους εμάς που απαρτίζουμε το ΔΣ της Εταιρίας και είχαμε την τύχη να συνεργαστούμε πιό στενά μαζί του τόσο στο κλινικό όσο και στο οργανωτικό και εκπαιδευτικό έργο της Εταιρίας, η απώλεια είναι ακόμα μεγαλύτερη.
Πέρα όμως από τους τίτλους, τις θέσεις και το επιστημονικό έργο, όσοι είχαν την τύχη να συνεργαστούν μαζί του θα θυμούνται τον Αλέξανδρο Ροδολάκη για την προσωπικότητά του. Για την αγάπη του για την Ιατρική, το πάθος του για τη Γυναικολογική Ογκολογία, τη διάθεσή του να διδάσκει και να μοιράζεται τη γνώση, αλλά και για την ιδιαίτερη σχέση που ανέπτυσσε με τους ασθενείς, τους συνεργάτες και τους μαθητές του.
Η απώλειά του αφήνει ένα σημαντικό κενό στην ελληνική επιστημονική κοινότητα και ιδιαίτερα στην οικογένεια της Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας. Η παρακαταθήκη του, όμως, θα παραμείνει ζωντανή μέσα από το επιστημονικό του έργο, τους μαθητές του, τους συνεργάτες του και όλους εκείνους που επηρεάστηκαν από τη διαδρομή και το παράδειγμά του.
Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Γυναικολογικής Ογκολογίας εκφράζει τα θερμά του συλλυπητήρια στην οικογένεια και στους οικείους του.
Αποχαιρετούμε έναν σπουδαίο δάσκαλο, έναν σημαντικό επιστήμονα και έναν άνθρωπο που προσέφερε πολλά στην Ιατρική και στη Γυναικολογική Ογκολογία.
Η μνήμη του θα παραμείνει ζωντανή και η προσφορά του θα αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς για τις επόμενες γενιές.

The Hellenic Society of Gynaecologic Oncology is the leading scientific association promoting research and knowledge for the subspecialty of Gynaecologic Oncology in Greece. It addresses both Gynaecologic Oncologists as well as Obstetrician‑Gynaecologists with a particular interest in Gynaecologic Oncology, as well as Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists, Radiologists and other related specialties that form the connecting links in the chain of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gynaecologic cancer.
Gynaecologic Oncology
It is the recognized subspecialty of Gynaecology that is concerned with the management, treatment, and prevention of all forms of gynaecologic cancer specifically endometrial, cervical, ovarian, vulvar, and vaginal cancers.
Comprehensive Therapeutic Approach
At the same time, Gynaecologic Oncology ensures the appropriate and timely coordination of the patient with adjuvant therapies such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Choices are made in a multidisciplinary setting, based on tumor stage and biology, with individualized plans and systematic monitoring of response and adverse effects.
Prevention and Early Diagnosis
Particular emphasis is placed on prevention and early diagnosis through organized screening programs (screening) and modern imaging. These include Pap/HPV testing for the cervix, ultrasound and, when indicated, magnetic resonance imaging, together with information on risk factors and vaccination against HPV.
